Hiking & Biking in the Finger Lakes

Jun 30, 2020

There’s only one word to describe the weather so far this summer- UNBELIEVABLE.

The sun and warm breezes have been perfect for so many outdoor activities. Our guests have been hiking at Taughannock Falls State Park in nearby Trumansburg this waterfall is taller than Niagara Falls! They have also been enjoying Captain Bill’s dinner cruises on Seneca Lake, chartering fishing excursions, riding the hills on their bikes and, of course, relaxing at the nearby craft breweries and wineries.

Watkins Glen State Park is one of the most popular attractions in the area, as it’s roughly only 9 miles south of Magnolia.  The gorge is blessed with 400 ft cliffs and 19 waterfalls, and features three main trails. The Southern Rim and Indian Trails run along the gorge’s wooded rim, while the Gorge trail is closest to the stream. It runs over, under and along the waterfalls, so get ready to get wet! (These trails also connect to the Finger Lakes Trail which is an 800-mile system of trails within New York state.) This park is one of the true gems of the area we live in.

Another favorite spot of ours is the Catherine Valley Trail, which is a great natural corridor 10 miles long to walk, bike and cross-country ski in the winter. Many folks will even bring binoculars to do some bird watching, catching sight of species unique to the Finger Lakes area.
