WINE & GRAPE HARVEST
Fall is on of the best times to visit the Finger Lakes Wine Country. With over 100 wineries in the area and 26 within a 10 minute drive of Magnolia Place, you can sample award-winning wines during the harvest season. The grape harvest typically starts in early September and lasts through October the end of October or early November, as different varietals mature. Here is a link to some of the wineries near Magnolia Place
RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH: Graft Wine and Cider Bar
Located in downtown Watkins Glen, Graft Wine and Cider Bar features Tapas items, as well as, entrees. Orlando, owner/chef, and his team have curated a unique eatery with wide variety of items. They’re all New York wine, beer and cider selections feature the best of what the Finger Lakes has to offer.
The Hector Wine Company’s portfolio emulates a deep commitment to making wines that reflect the centuries old farm, Sawmill Creek Vineyards. Because of this commitment, they’ve handcraft each wine. This means that they handpick in the vineyard and employ a second hand sort at the winery every time. They allow for long fermentations, often spontaneous, and don’t rush the wines into the bottle. Their small production wines are carefully curated to express balance and terroir. Just down the road from Magnolia place, this winery features a variety of white and red wines, all truly handcrafted. Within the tasting room, there is a charming market featuring items to compliment your wine selections. They also host many events throughout the year.

RECIPE: Pumpkin Pancakes with Apple Cider Cinnamon Syrup
Recipe yields 8 to 12 pancakes.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1¾cup all-purpose flour
- 1½teaspoons baking powder
- ¾teaspoon fine salt
- ¼cup granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon cloves
- ¼ teaspoon ginger
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1½teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 3large eggs
- ¾ cup Pumpkin
- ¼cup buttermilk
- 2tablespoons/28 grams unsalted butter, melted, plus room-temperature butter for cooking and serving
SYRUP :
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons butter
METHOD:
Mix all your dry ingredients together with a whisk so they are well incorporated. Melt the butter, mix in the vanilla, eggs and buttermilk and whisk the wet ingredients together. Add in your dry components and mix, do not over mix, you may have some clumps, that’s ok!
For the syrup, pour the cider and lemon juice into a saucepan and place on medium heat. Mix the sugar, cinnamon and cornstarch together until well incorporated. Once the cider is hot, slowly pour in the sugar mixture constantly tiring so that it does not clump up. When the syrup begins to boil, turn down to a low heat to simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally. After 10 minutes, introduce the butter into the syrup and continue to blend it in. Once the butter is melted the syrup is ready. If it looks a little clumpy from the cornstarch, you can strain it through a fine strainer.
Cook your pancakes on a medium/high skillet, top with butter and syrup and enjoy!

We would highly recommend the Magnolia Place Bed and Breakfast!” – Jeff S.
“This is a lovely spot overlooking Seneca Lake and slope side vineyards. Beautifully decorated and carefully managed. Breakfast was great; outdoor access directly from rooms very unusual and convenient. Massive covered porch in case it rains. You’re in the heart of wine country so there’s plenty to drink as you marvel at sunset. I have a very long and varied travel history on many continents over half a century and this is one of my top three destinations in the world. So don’t hesitate—stay here.” – Christopher F.
